What you need to know

Linking a Jira issue to a remote artifact allows you to access important information about the remote artifact at a glance.

Most notably, you should find the object type (represented by its icon) and its name. OSLC Connect for Jira also displays two additional pieces of information about the linked object: its status and its priority.

By default, these will be displayed as text with a grey background. It’s possible to change the display to an icon or change the background color of the text.

Note that unlike other available customization of OSLC Connect for Jira, changes here will be applied to all your projects at once.

Also, keep in mind that some remote artifacts might not have these properties at all, which means that no value will be displayed, independently of the configuration steps taken below.

To configure the link appearance, go to the OSLC Connect Link Appearance configuration page:

  1. Click the Jira Administration icon in the top right corner and go to the Manage apps tab.

  2. Click Link Appearance in the OSLC Connect section.

This page has two tabs, Priority and Status. Both tabs have the same options to customize links in Jira.

Showing or hiding link properties

To choose whether or not you want to display the Priority and Status properties, you can tick the checkbox at the top of the page (it should be enabled by default).

If you untick the checkbox, these properties will not be displayed.

Changing the rendering of a given value

For each property, you can add a customization rule to change the rendering of a given value by following these steps:

  1. Click the Add Priority or Add Status button.

  2. Fill out the form:

    • OSLC property value: The value of the remote property you want to customize.

    • Label: You may choose a label to display in place of the original value.

    • Display with: Choose if you want to display the value with a custom background color or use an icon instead.

    • Display: Depending on the type of display you previously chose, you’ll need to configure:

      • Color: Pick a color in the list.

      • Icon URL: Set an icon URL or use an existing Jira icon by clicking the select image link.

    • Sample: This shows an example of what the property value will look like.

    • Note: You may enter a note here if needed.

  3. Click the Save button to confirm.

Managing existing configurations

The action column at the right of the configuration list will show two possible options when you mouse over a line:

  • Edit link appearance: This will open the edition dialog that you can use to update the desired configuration. You can change every attribute except the OSLC property value.

  • Remove link appearance: This will open a confirmation dialog allowing you to remove an unwanted configuration.

Configuration example

As shown below, you can have a simple Link Appearance configuration that customizes the display of external links in Jira.
